Save Sodomy from Ulster

Ian Paisley Junior today declared himself to be ‘pretty repulsed by gay and lesbianism’. Thirty years ago his grim dad ran a gay campaign to ‘Save Ulster from Sodomy’. While this primitive phobia puts the Paisleys on a par with the Pope, it’s not the first time that it has got young Ian into hot water. >>>

Living in Sin

In February 2005, when Ulster Unionist Stephen King married his partner in Canada, young Ian demanded that David Trimble sack King. Naturally, young Ian didn’t hate gay people. His problem was that, if David Trimble was taking advice from a married gay man on social matters, ‘it would be like the DUP taking advice from an IRA man on constitutional matters’.

Presumably then, young Ian had previously been okay with King advising Trimble while he was merely living in sin (twice over, at least) with his partner? Well, not really. He found gay relationships generally to be ‘immoral, offensive and obnoxious’. The Northern Ireland Policing Board, of which young Ian was a member, did not agree. They formally censured him for his comments.

Objective Disorder

Perhaps young Ian could in future express his homophobia in more measured terms. He could, for example, try this formula:

Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered to an intrinsic moral evil, and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder.

Or this one:

Above all, we must have great respect for these people who also suffer and who want to find their own way of correct living. On the other hand, to create a legal form of a kind of homosexual marriage, in reality, does not help these people.

He should, of course, give credit to the author of these quotes, the current Antichrist, Pope Benedict XVI.
