Was Sir Terry Wogan in the IRA?

Today’s Sunday Times has a very sensitive review of James Nesbitt playing Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde on BBC1. AA Gill says of Nesbitt that:

He’s blarney and craic and Terry Wogan, but also the voice from behind the balaclava, the code-word warning and sectarian bile.

And Gill is not the first British pundit to link Sir Terry to the IRA. When Ali G met the Lord Mayor of Belfast, he asked the same question. He also had this legendary exchange with the DUP’s Sammy Wilson:

Ali G: So is you Irish?
Sammy Wilson: No, I’m British.
Ali G: So is you here on holiday?
