Tori Amos and the Boomtown Rats

Here’s one of my favourite cover versions. It’s Tori Amos, from Strange Little Girls, in which she covers, from a female perspective, twelve songs written by men. Her version of I Don’t Like Mondays was used in an episode of the West Wing as the soundtrack to the aftermath of a fictional bombing at a university.

Here’s Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats with the original version from 1979. It was Geldof’s rection to news reports of a 16-year-old schoolgir who shot eleven children and adults, killing two of them, at a children’s playground in California. When asked why she did it, she replied that she didn’t like Mondays.
