Five Great Irish Links on StumbleUpon

Here are five great Irish links from an hour on StumbleUpon. Warning: do not try this at home. Seriously. To find these, I had to wade through a sea of leprechauns, green beer, diddly-eye music, and jokes about our legendary drunken stupidity. But it was worth it to find these gems: >>>

  • Irelantis is a series of surreal collages by Irish artist Sean Hillen. They include the Great Cliffs of Collage Green, the Glacier in Henry Street, Horse Racing on the Liffey, and much more.
  • A Modest Proposal – the full text of Jonathan Swift’s modest proposal for preventing the children of poor people in Ireland from being a burden to their parents or the country.
  • Irish Newspaper Archives – A truly excellent resource, and the type of thing that only the Internet makes possible. A subscription service where you can search, retrieve and view old Irish newspapers in the format that they were originally published.
  • Learn Irish Slang in Under 20 Seconds – A guide to the proper usage of such terminological specificities as hole, eejit, gaff, clatter, jacks, banjaxed, skint, gas and geebag.
  • Does Ireland as a Country Exist? – Very interesting debate on Contributions range from ‘Countries are mere constructs of a conventionalised imagination, convenient for the purposes of collective social organisation’ to ‘Eastenders is shite’.

Welcome to my blog about living in the maddest country on earth. Please feel free to leave a comment.

I also write Bionic Bohs, a blog about following Bohemians football club in the 1970s.

Bionic Bohs

As mentioned above, if you like Irish football and/or cultural nostalgia, I also write Bionic Bohs, a blog about following Bohs in the 1970s.
