On this week last year (September 10 to September 16, 2006):

  • As north-west radio station Ocean FM rejected a petition to do so, it was revealed that only three Irish radio stations play the Angelus daily. Which stations?
  • Trainee solicitor Colin Carroll from Cork was preparing to be the only Irishman to take part in the World Championships of an unusual sport. What was the sport, and why was his weight a disadvantage?
  • Who, on getting promoted to a new job, surprised everyone by announcing that ‘I think all my colleagues would bear testimony to the fact that I’m a team player’?
  • A health survey had bad news for residents of Mayo, but good news for those of Donegal. What was it?
  • Why did the Mayor of Waterford, Cha O’Neill, criticise local college lecturer Brendan McCann?

  • RTE Radio One, Shannonside FM and Mid West Radio.
  • He was entering the World Sumo-Wrestling Championships, and he was only 11 stone. A keen sportsman, Carroll also plays elephant polo.
  • Michael McDowell, on becoming PD leader and Tanaiste. He also predicted that the PDs could return to the next Dail with sixteen TDs.
  • Mayo had the highest number of people (63%) with a cholestoral level of greater than five, which is the maximum recommended by health professionals. Donegal had the lowest number (16%).
  • Because McCann had been lodging an average of one objection, appeal or observation every week with regard to planning applications for proposed developments in the city. The Mayor called McCann ‘a serial objector’.
