The Irish Star Who Became a Planet
September 30, 2007 at 2:13 am 2 comments
If you discover a minor planet, you get to suggest a name for it. Most are named after scientists, explorers or composers, but some have been named after popular entertainers including the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Procul Harum, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Yes and Eric Clapton. But who is the only Irish musician to have a planet named after them? >>>
Answer
Enya.
The planet Enya was named ten years ago, on a proposal by GV Williams. It has a 3.96-year elliptical orbit, is between 3 and 7 km wide, and is between 279.2 million and 439.4 million km from the Sun.

You should put this conversation to the editor of thisdayinmusic. Not sure if any of you know about this site but it is full of cool music trivia, the editor would love to have more music facts. they are running a poll at the moment…
If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be? John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain? Or someone else?
Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote for who you would like to see on. pretty cool. there newsletter is really interesting and you can win prizes too.
I’m going to send this post to the editor. If he’s a true music lover I’m sure he’ll want to know about this.
